Stationary muscle mounding after muscle percussion without electrical muscle activity is called myoedema. Out of 105 patients with different neurological diseases, 88% had this phenomenon. Muscle conduction velocity and stimulated single fiber EMG disclosed no abnormalities. Myoedema is a normal physiological phenomenon, and its presence does not indicate a neuromuscular disorder.

Motor nerve conduction study along the entire length of the ulnar and tibialis posterior nerves was carried out in 30 diabetics compared with 30 uremic patients and 30 control subjects. The conduction in the proximal and the distal nerve segments was evaluated by the determination of the M and F latencies, MNCV (between the stimulus sites), FWCV (between the spinal cord and the stimulus sites), and F-ratio (conduction time ratio of proximal to distal segment). Nerve conduction velocities (NCVs), somatosensory (SEPs) and auditory evoked potentials (BAEPs) were recorded in 9 patients with facio-scapulo-humeral dystrophy (FSHD) and in 20 age-matched controls. In FSHD patients a significant increase of the nerve distal sensory latencies and of the absolute SEP latencies revealed a subclinical involvement of the afferent sensory pathways, as well as the abnormal slowing of the later components of the BAEPs, pointed to a central auditory dysfunction. The interaction of low-threshold mechanoreceptive and nociceptive inputs onto spinal neurones probably plays a major role in the pathophysiology of the clinical sign of allodynia. This phenomenon was investigated by modulation of the early component of the flexor reflex (FR) in the tibialis anterior (TA) muscle, elicited by electrical stimulation of the medial plantar nerve at the sole of the foot, by homotopically applied painful heat in humans. Es wird uber die Untersuchung einer akuten Wirkung von T3 in vitro auf die Refraktarperiode und die Leitungsgeschwindigkeit des Meerschweinchenvorhofs berichtet. T3 verkurzte die Refraktarzeit geringfugig (5,2%). Bei vermindertem K-Gehalt der Badlosung oder nach Vorgabe von ACh oder DNP trat die Verkurzung der Refraktarzeit unter T3 wesentlich deutlicher in Erscheinung, und es konnte Flimmern ausgelost werden, obwohl die Substanzen vor der Gabe von T3 vollstandig ausgespult waren. Adrenalin hatte keinen Einflus auf den T3-Effekt. Die Leitungsgeschwindigkeit wurde durch T3 nicht verandert.
